SERIES NR. 1

IN THE ARTS VENUE CAMPO (GHENT) A PORTRAIT GALLERY IS ON DISPLAY FROM 16 TO 20 FEBRUARY. IN THIS SERIES OF 4 PORTRAITS YODELING IS THE MAIN FOCUS. IN FLANDERS THE FASCINATION FOR ALPINE AND COWBOY CULTURE HAS CREATED ITS OWN LATE OFFSPRING.

PORTRAIT 1: ERNA VAN OCKALEYEN. Now a secretary, Erna learned yodeling in her teens when going to Switzerland during a summer holiday with the christian insurance company. The portrait takes us to Catholic Flanders, song books, protest demonstrations and a woman’s ensemble De Edelweizen who took inspiration from Tiroler sex movies.

PORTRAIT 2: DIETWIN DE JODELAAR. Discovered in talent shows on television, Dietwin is a self-made entertainer at après-ski parties. He is a born fan now making fans with his first release Das Jodelcanon. For Dietwin yodeling has become a way to create a parallel life and live his dream.

PORTRAIT 3: NICOLAS Y GALEAZZI. A Swiss born ex-pat living in Belgium, he never has been paying much attention to his providence until the birth of his daughter. He sings and speaks about lullabies and AlpenSeeges.

PORTRAIT 4: BOB VRIELING is a yodeler who worked as a musician in the daily shows at Bobbejaanland, the amusement park run by late world-famous yodeler Bobbejaan Schoepen. He speaks about roller coasters and the yodeling cowboy.

SERIES NR. 1. IS PART OF VAN IMSCHOOT’S RESIDENCY AT CAMPO. IT IS A TRY-OUT MADE POSSIBLE IN THE WORK-IN-PROGRESS SERIES OF CAMPO.
