This page is part of the publication “Yodel Portraits”.
Yodel Portraits is a series by artist Myriam Van Imschoot in which practitioners of the 'broken voice' sketch their techniques and fascinations. In a simple manner they narrate, explain, give samples and demonstrate. They are all musicologists of some sort, whether their terrain is the bathroom, weddings, the pastures and meadows, or the stage.
This page presents the video version of the Yodel Portrait of Bob Vrieling. He worked as a musician in the daily shows at Bobbejaanland, the amusement park run by late world-famous yodeler Bobbejaan Schoepen. He speaks about roller coasters and the yodeling cowboy.
Yodel Portrait Bob Vrieling was first presented live in the Ghent Theatre Campo alongside other portraits. Like them Bob Vrieling peers through the keyhole of his art to reveal a wider landscape of life events and cultural histories.
